What is MYOFASCIAL RELEASE?

Myofascial Release is a hands-on, manual therapy technique that focuses on relieving pain and improving movement by working on the fascia—the thin, tough connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles, bones, and organs.

What Is Fascia?

Fascia is a web-like connective tissue.  It can become tight or restricted due to trauma, inflammation, overuse, poor posture, or stress.  When restricted, it can cause pain, limited range of motion, and dysfunction.

What Happens in a Myofascial Release Session?

  • The therapist uses gentle, sustained pressure (not deep tissue) on the skin or you can remain clothed—little to no lotion is used.
  • Focus is on waiting for the release, holding the pressure for 2–5 minutes or longer.
  • Targets trigger points, adhesions, and restricted areas.
  • The pressure is slow and deep enough to engage the fascia, but not forceful like deep tissue massage.
